I went for ‘Evam Indrajit’ today only because it was Sunill’s play.
And Sunill plays Zebra in my movie.
I wanted to watch him act on stage cuz I’ve never ever seen him perform on stage before (I had cast him after an audition and I had no clue then of how popular he was or how talented he was!)
But today, I know why he’s so popular!
He’s such a natural. When I auditioned him, I thought he was just a little loud for the camera, but today when I saw him, I was super impressed with his performance!
More than his performance, I loved the collective effort put into this thought-provoking play which looks at That Four Letter Word: Life.
It looks at life from the point of view of a writer and his protagonist Indrajit, an individual who was becoming a regular standardised living being, arrested by the drudgery of life. The beauty of the play lies in the fact that it is cynical and optimistic at the same time.
Mike’s sets were very simple yet super effective. The actors indeed seemed to be one of us delivering performances which were quite realistic and lines quite spontaneously.
“EVAM INDRAJIT” – your life in three acts, is being staged in association with The Madras Players at the Sivagami Petachi Auditorium, Madras.

Sudish,
I was there yesterday. Thought you would be covering the play for Hindu
balaji:
im not reviewing it for the paper cuz we have a regular theatre specialist doing the review.
but ive done a story on evam for tomorrow’s issue. watch out for that!
and hey, nice blog u have!
🙂
Hey sudish,
How are you? Manoj here from StudentConcepts. How is the movie coming along? Apologies in me not being there when you called me.
With regards to evam indrajit…it was a great show with a great message. It must have been a tough task to have people sit through such a serious discussion on stage. However, people identified with it from the word go.
Sunil is a great actor. I first saw him in 2003 when evam did their first play in chennai called ART. Then i had a chance to share the stage with him couple of months later on DEATH. He played KLEINMAN and he was great. I couldnt help thinking thru out the 3 months “what a talent!” …Then i worked with him again for Maniratnam’s ad shoot with Tendulkar and i must say Sunil was the star..he played a handicap in the ad.
Evam has been good in selecting their actors and getting the best out of them. I wish them all the best!
Keep in touch Sudish! And check out our new website when u get a chance.

I have watched this play in Bangalore staged by “The Actor” group. Awesome stuff!
Congrats on the promotion saar!
hey there,
Sunil definitely deserves a pat on his back along with Asim… i thought if Sunil was taking a quite stroll on the stage, Asim was setting it alight with his sheer sense of timing in his dialogues… neways u are very lucky to watch evam in action for the first time ‘cos in their earlier plays the choice of cast and their performances werent much to rave about
cheers
hey Manoj:
So good to see u here man!!
will sure be in touch dude!!
Jax:
Thanx!
Yeah, this play as such is truly a must watch experience… hope it was as good as Evam’s version!
sriraam selvan:
yes, sunil is super talented.
in fact, the first thing he did after he agreed to do the role in my film is sit with me for about a coupla hours to ask me all he wanted to know about the character, his life, his background, his dreams, his fears, his attitude, his influences, his dressing style, body language, etc etc. He also watched what Ranvir did with the role and actually improved on it!
im very happy with what he’s done for the film!!
he’s a thorough professional!
Watched the play last night, googled and it brought me here!
Nice play. Very long and repeated monologues. But ended well. So kinda made up for everything else.
Evam are going just one way. UP! talented bunch.
