We thank you for your interest in the campaign. The response has been very good so far and we have received numerous phone-calls, e-mails and personal enquiries from various sections of people who have expressed outrage at the instances of moral policing in Chennai and other places in Tamil Nadu.
At the last meeting, held on 07.10.2005 at ‘The Amethyst’, 65 people participated. There was a general consensus that a long-term campaign should be initiated for protection of freedom of speech and expression, freedom of association and consenting adult relationships, and against moral policing.
It was felt that such a campaign should encourage an open and healthy dialogue on various issues amongst citizens, state agencies including police and political parties, students, professionals and NGOs on such issues. It was also decided that a series of events would be organised for this purpose. The first of such events planned, is a day long programme to be held on Sunday, 6th November, 2005(date is tentative) consisting of poster painting, theatre, puppet show etc culminating in a public meeting to be addressed by eminent citizens.
In order to discuss the organisation of these events and to plan further programmes there will be a meeting on Friday 21.10.2005 at ICSA (Jeevan Jyothi), No.107. Pantheon Road, (Opp. Egmore Museum), Chennai-600008.

Of course we can’t expect from a mallu to be bothered about TN as a whole. but who does actually?
But the politicians in tamil nadu have to take into consideration the last tamilian who comes from village too. We don’t want him to experience the cultural shock in his home capital as he may experience in, say NY. And Chennai is not only the capital but also the representative of tamilnadu.
seeing chennai seperate from TN is possible only by “outsiders”.
I think it must represent what the leaders of tamilnadu think it fit rather than in the name of cosmopolitanism, this “land of enduring heritage” must represent the values of those who come here for a living.

Though i dont want to comment anymore here and give this person a-good-riddance sigh, please note that i have put the the word outsiders within quotes. Living in a multi-cultural and muti-racial society myself, idon’t want to call outsiders but i’m sure about one thing…
when someone is living outside their cultures, they tend to have big-picture view of their own society, but hate and are critical of the society they live in. this is true of most people living outside their states in India.
It’s just not pride nut something more than that.
I do agree( but not fully) with V.S.Naipaul when he says multi-culturalism has become a “noisy fuss”.

I think its Maruthuvar Ramadoss writing under the nick of Anbu. Hey, why would any sane person actually call himself a fan of Ramadoss ?
But looking at it again, this Anbu person does not appear sane anycase.
Just a simple request, Mr. Anbu or whatever you are. Take your chauvinistic / regionalistic attitude and shove it up you know where. Tamizh is several 1000 years old and so is Chennai. It can survive without your cultural hang-ups. I suggest that you go back to your Ramadoss controlled village and Have a Great Time by burning more trees !

I try to be non-chauvinistic and non-regional…truly. But others simply never let me. when you are sorrounded by hooligans, you tend to become paranoid….
i wonder, why do people want to show “emotions” in public. People who can’t kiss their girlfriends in front of their parents, demand that they have right to kiss in public. The society is a larger family. Public place is not a brothel house.

maybe u shd attend the forum and express ur concern… there is polarisation of attitudes happening in the society. the idea of the forum is to initiate dialogue with the other extreme.
the saner chennai is just a working title for the banner… but wat it stands for is “celebration of freedom of expression”… the biggest boon of democracy!
and democracy works thru personal choice. if u have a problem, attend the forum and tell us why you think what you think, maybe you ll convince us…
