At last a movie that lives up to all that it claims to? All the reviews have been quite promising. Haven’t yet seen it but hope it turns out to be worth it!
what is so grt abt avatar it is just the same good vs evil + special effects 3d technology is still not good enough to give a close to reality appeal and 3d with those glasses makes the movie just dark .
So you r just going abt as every other film critic rajeev masand etc saying avatar is film of century , this movie is just a hype.
Film critics are compelled to view movies for the sake of criticising it and give verdicts and so through out the year they do their job by tearing movies apart and affect their box office collections. But some movies do kick asses of these critics and do well irrespective of their bad reviews. Also followers of these critics may lose interests of their reviews if they keep on giving bad verdicts and by realizing it now they are compelled to give good verdicts too to prevent names such as ‘jerk’,’cynic’,’various-ass’..and many more..
So, for criticising, critics will go watch Indian movies and rotate their ‘dandas’.For praising part they will go for Hollywood movies with their ‘tails’ rolled between their legs and they will be lavish in their praises…as if in fear of being considered as ‘illiterate’ if they don’t praise a hollywood movie. After all we all are Hollywood obessed..(think of naming Bollywood,Kollywood,Tollywood,Sandalwood,Teakwood,Rosewood,Tigerwood etc..)We don’t want to accept the beauty of Marina beach as Marina beach but dying to change it as Malibu beach.
Now lets see how these film critics work….
**All these critics (espc’lly male critics) have a well knit “Illuminati”kind of network 🙂 through internet social networks. If one of these guy (whoever sees the movie first) praises…U’r right!…everyone else do the same.If that guy criticizes… U’r again right!!…others do the same.Only play with the words of their style!!Because each one does not want to be left out alone from the gang!! You know “Majority always rules”…
** Critics are pressurized to review a movie on its first day..sometimes even before by seeing special previews. They have very limited time to analyze and write their reviews…they are in a race.(News paper to be printed by night, net.blogs to be uploaded by night,TV shows to be presented by night…Have fun by night..etc 🙂 )they don’t want to take more time to review a movie at leisure…How can an analyst analyze a thing without repeated watching/reading??
**) Are we sure of these Critics that they keep their emotional/health problems aside while reviewing a movie/book etc? For e.g:- If they broke up with girl friend, If they catch a cold/head ache/sore throat/cough/fever etc,if their vehicle broke down etc./If one of their relatives or friends or wellwishers is part of the movie’s cast or crew…etc won’t affect their reviewing of that particular film?
All the above thoughts whirlwinded my mind when I finished watching ‘Avatar’on 3D after having read/seen reviews of ‘Avatar’ by various critics. Also felt of being manipulated/hypnotised by these critics to rush to the movie hall to watch this film immediately 🙂
If you ask me to ‘single out’ a review of ‘Avatar’ from ‘n’ number of’em I’ll go with NDTV’s Anupama Chopra who grounded her feet and gave 3*s for the movie because of “missing natural human values” of the movie. She is the only female film critic I know of….
….Phew…thats a ..long…comment.
If you didn’t like a film, it does not make every other person’s opinion less valid. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and generalisation of this nature only makes your argument weaker. It wouldn’t take me much to generalise and say Only idiots with their head up their ass can’t see the magic of Avatar… But I am sure there are others who don’t like Avatar with better reasoning and intelligence than you have displayed here.
Well.. well.. well.!..chill buddy…!
Never mentioned I did’nt like Avatar but only wanted to convey that all you critics went overboard to worship Avatar and none of you even wish to point out its flaws..which..I think..is your duty…
Since you have missed…I would like to point out some of Avatar flaws..(..this is only my personal opinion,by one
English Yoda teach, as long as you will not, happy I will be.
Ok..watched Avatar again..! 😉 reason for the floating mountain is because of (a scientific terminology called )” Flux Vortex”.
//The flux vortex is a phenomenon on Pandora that occurs most strongly near the Tree of Souls, although it spreads through the Hallelujah Mountains. It is caused by large deposits of unobtainium, which create strong magnetic fields. This is what causes the Hallelujah Mountains to float. The vortex also causes disturbances in aircraft instruments, rendering them unreadable. It also prevents guided missiles from working properly// says

Google for more..
Reg..POWs…yep I was wrong..they are wearing Masks…Oops!
Oops….suddenly disconnected…and continuing here…
Since you have missed I would like to point out some of Avatar’s flaws..(Disclaimer:This is strictly my personal opinion with one time movie viewing and not necessarily to influence others!)
** Story is VERY Ordinary..
** Its impossible to believe Worthington and gang will go all against and destroy their fellow human fellas…coz…they are coming to pandora by knowing the mission…(worthington may be an exception as he had sex with Neitiri 🙂 )
** Human/Na’vis/Creatures/their livelihood are freely walking/existing in Pandora like they do in the Earth….means gravity (or acceleration due to gravity) is there in Pandora..the giant water falls is evident for the gravity….but Cameron boss how come the flying mountains..?
** Human/Navi size proportions are not differentiated properly through out the movie.Only in the initial scene where the Navis had been cloned, the size difference was evident…
** The oxygen mask for humans are just for the name sake..where are the cylinders?..alas in the closing scene the POWs are shown without masks…
These are all only few…as they say in Tamil…Water has froth,Rice has its shell so before consuming them remove the unwanted and be happy…
But still in my opinion instead of going for the animation for the Navis(Navis only) Cameron would have gone for the human artists with special make-ups…then the movie would have looked more real and life.
Cheers!! and Happy New Year!!! 🙂
Wow! This is your own intelligence or you bought it somewhere at a discount? Fantastic. Happy New Year!
whenever a brilliant movie releases, there wil always be someone to say, ‘im different from the mob, look at me im cool. I dont like avatar’.
I think avatar is brilliant and for the complaints that the movie did not explain some of the basic concepts like the floating mountains, oxygen mask, blah, blah, blah.. those doesnt need to be explained. You can wait a year or two, expect a short to be made to explain those details like gotham knight & animatrix did for matrix and dark knight respectively.
@clyvin:
We never know the composition of rock in flying mountains, it may be floating coz the air der mayb dense.
On The scaling glitch betwwen humans and Na’vi:
Did you doze off in the scene when sammy worthington is mapped into his Na’vi avatar??
Everything was upto scale and satisfactory….
And mind you there was that scene in which the ‘Tsahik’ tries to transfer Weaver’s soul from her human body to her Avatar..
Dude its 150 years into the future so u may never know about the advances in nanotechnology…
There could be a gas filter using nanotechnology that would feed the the oxygen into the mask from pandora’s atmosphere..(just speculating..:D)
In 1820 no one would even dreamed about going to moon.
Watch the movie again all the pow’s wear gas mask at the end.
Well about the story part i agree its quite obvious but the screenplay came to its rescue.i didnt even blink an eye through the movie.
Well about sammy switchin sides:
They are only debriefed that they would be goin into pandora to learn about it and hopefully talk their way out and convince the people to vacate the hometree.
For jake, he is a handicap and he is more agile, athletic and more importantly walk and run in his na’vi avatar so its natural that he is a bit reluctant to give up his na’vi identity, but then cumon dude he is the HERO of this movie and obviously he is good hearted and destroys the evil force by joining hands with the good force..
Let me preface this by saying I am a huge James Cameron fan. I think “Terminator” is a masterpiece of sci-fi and the single best edited film of all time, “Aliens” is easily the best sequel not from the original director and I personally like it a lot more than the original. “Abyss” created an interesting world and was racked with tension, “Terminator 2” is an action tour-de-force and has what I believe the best sound editing/design of all time, “True Lies” is goofy fun, more poignant than most give it credit for with a boffo ending, and finally “Titanic” was far better than anyone expected it to be and has one of the most believable romances in a movie.
Hi Guys!
@noobreviewer
That was a good dressing down u gave 🙂 . Yep trying to dissect the technology in the movie doesn’t make sense as it happens in 2154 (or somewhere thereabouts). Just imagine how Issac Newton would react to a modern television. He might even call it witchcraft !
And regarding the oxygen masks, at the end, when jake’s trying to get the mask, its written “Emergency Rebreather something” . “Rebreather” is the key word. As you said its something that takes pandora’s atmosphere and converts into human breathable form (We’re never told whether it has oxygen or not. Probably it does) .
So, so much for scientific dissection. I think most people are missing its magic !
Leaving the technicality aside, i am another humble reader who thinks Sudhish went a little overboard in pumping Avatar out of proportions.
