Work!

May 24, 2005 · by sudhishkamath

It’s almost like a new innings.

I’ve been away from office (well, not entirely) for about two months now on various grounds. First, it was my movie and I was off for a month. Then a week went by in trying to slip back to work mode. Soon I hear about the Korea trip and a week went by preparing for that, 10 days went by in Seoul and Delhi and I come back to office to find out Im on night shift for a week and then got a coupla days off.

Yesterday, was supposed to be the day of re-starting work yet again but then I was blessed with the task of reviewing Star Wars Episode 3 and I did that and watched all six parts in a span of 30 hours.

So today, was like the ‘back to business’ day.

And so far, its been quite productive.
Did/doing four movie reviews: Nazar, Jo Bole So Nihaal, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Kung Fu Hustle. So watch out this Friday for my reviews.

Also finished writing the first part of a new column with Shonali. We’re were supposed to start this column after Campus Jottings ended. The break of a fortnight extended to almost a year, thanks to sheer laziness! In any case, we’ve only done a coupla stories together in almost a year now, compared to the stories we used to sit and write together every other week. So its good to be back writing with my favourite co-writer. Again.

Anyway, it’s this column that’s gonna be called “He says, She says” and we ve conceived it as this light-hearted battle of the sexes. It should hit the paper mid of June every week. Every week Shonali and me will find something new to fight about, no holds barred. That should be fun, so watch out for that!

Awrite, I’m getting back to work on my reviews again.

And yeah, I love these breaks I take.

P.S: Doing really well on the 40 days vow so far… No problems there whatsoever! 🙂

Hey sudhish… remember the first question I asked you when we met at Satyabhama engg. college(kamal’s doctrate function)???.. I asked you when you were gonna write again with Shonali… You actually told me abt this “he says she says” idea then but have actually started it only now, I guess… Great da… I’m looking forward for dat column… n hey, will it be publ. in Metroplus? i have a suggstn. dude- y not ask ur bosses for a space for such columns weekly in the 2nd or 3rd page of the paper…? Will give ur paper a better ‘youth readership’, which i feel is dwindling… watcha say? Srinivas.

if u consider i spent 15 out of 30 hours watching Star Wars and then writing 4 reviews, that leaves me hardly any time to notice if any hawt chick comes around.
But yes, it is kinda difficult when ur colleagues know u r on a vow and begin to talk about all the hawt chick friends they have who are single.
and then there is my genie who I fondly call jaan… that i find difficult or imposssible to stop given that she’s an incredibly sweet person n currently my fav. person online!

see, i don t think the paper wants to change the main section of the “Newspaper” into a “viewspaper” nor do I think its a good idea. The magazine and supplements do enuff of that anyway, rite?

sudhish…my point is this – I knew tat Sunil Dutt was dead at 12 noon wednesday(thanks to net and TV) and can read abt it in the paper ONLY the next morning… get the point? I really feel newspapers should become more “view-oriented” than “news-oriented” bcos of the alternate media thru which information gets across… wat do u say? Maybe I’ll implement all this when I start my newspaper one day, perhaps!!…Srinivas.

Wow! Somebody has the temerity to suggest the Grand Old Lady of MountRoad become a red mast tabloid?! That will be the day!
For now, hang up the boughs of holly, and join me in the ‘hallelujah chorus’…Suds amd Shonali back together again! I expect great stuff from you guys…and am certain you will not let me down! Till then,
    Tra-la-laing Shelob.

    really stale old debate man!
so ill give u a really old answer: no matter what happens, u arent gonna take ur TV to the loo!
the power of print for documentation is another stale yet still relevant reason on why we still need newspapers for the record. Online versions can be edited, storing and sorting TV footage cud be a nitemare for the common man. Hence, the most credible documentation and record of events is only with a newspaper!
Besides, if ure gonna put in the views in the newspaper, what will u fill the magazine sections with?
    So there!
    Cheers!

    Lol!
    Thanks pa!!

    but seriously,
the concept is a male point of view and a female point of view on things.
our first public quarrel is on a much abused, discussed topic:
chivalry! but we are doing it so that people get the feel of what the concept is.
so, i will be writing on why i dont believe in opening the door for the girl.
And she will be writing on why we should.
two different opposing warring point of views. but we mite agree with each rarely! so watch out for that!
its likely to be labelled sexist and chauvinistic and I will never ever get a date all my life, says Shonali…
but tell me what use is a date who does not have a sense of humour?
