A lot of idiots seem to think that this post is about RDB.
It’s not.
It’s about ‘Being the change,’ something which has also been discussed in the movie. These resolutions are not born out of the movie, nor did I undergo dramatic change after watching the movie as foolishly assumed by some in the comment section.
This post happened in the context of a conversation I had with a friend. This conversation might have happened because of the movie but that does not mean that the feelings you have towards your country did not exist before.
Warning: Smart asses, park elsewhere.
* * *
It totally depresses me when I see people, especially my buddies being indifferent to the system.
They only make the stereotype that today’s youth don’t care two hoots for the country look so true.
You know the lines the boys in RDB say before their transformation: “Nothing can change the system. The system will change you.”
But then, you also probably know the reply the movie provides to that: “No country is perfect. You have to make it better.” (through Madhavan and later, Siddharth)
“There are two ways to live life. One, tolerate whatever happens, quietly. Two, take upon the responsibility to change it.” (as Aamir later says)
What can we do, an IITian asked the cast and crew after the movie screening at the OAT. And Madhavan said: “Be the change.”
As I was discussing this with a few friends, some of them thought it looked and sounded good in a movie, but does not work in real life.
“Even if you change, the others are not going to,” said one, over chat.
“You are saying that hoping it will absolve you of your guilt,” I said.
He went on to argue how it’s just a movie and things you see in movies cannot be implemented.
Riding home at around 10 last night, I saw people jumping traffic signals. A classic case of what my friend said earlier in the day. I usually stop at the traffic signal no matter how late it is in the night… Of course, only till I see the speeding lorry behind me and get moving to make sure I dont get killed. Sometimes, I move over to the side of the road to wait at the signal.
Last night, I was probably so angry with everything that I decided not to budge. I stopped right in the centre of the road at the traffic signal. Soon enough a whole bunch of vehicles whizzed past. As I stood my ground watching out through the rear view mirror, I saw a huge lorry coming at 80 or 90 straight at me… “Kill me, you bastard,” I said, refusing to move. And it missed me by a whisker… I just felt a little more angry when that happened.
But soon, there was this share auto that screeched to a halt right next to me. “Idiots they are. Only you and me know the rules,” he said in Tamil, sounding a little drunk. I couldn’t help smiling. And before we knew it, there were more to follow the rules. Bikes, cars and even a lorry behind us. I was sooo kicked.
That’s when I decided I had to blog about this.
It’s simple things like this that we can do to be the change.
They do not cost us anything. It’s just a simple change in attitude. Here’s a list of things I can do to be the change, irrespective of how many people will do it… Unconditionally.
1. Stop at traffic signals, no matter what time it is.
2. Stick to lanes, not overspeed, not break No Entry rules.
3. Not litter, not spit and learn to use the bin.
4. Not drink and drive.
5. Wear a helmet.
6. Earn in rupees (Madhavan said that at IIT the other night). Or even if you don’t, invest in rupees.
7. Spend a week during a year with a non government organisation. Either seven off days or 2 days once in two months, however. Or if you do not have the time, donate money. If you have both, do both.
8. Encourage movies like RDB. Because even if they do not change you, they are probably making a few other people wake up to their responsibility towards the nation. And even going by the logic that they leave an impact that lasts just a month, there will be more movies that will come to help them keep the faith.
9. Buy Indian brands (Something I’m gonna personally start doing!)
10. Pay taxes.
11. Vote. Even if its a protest vote (void vote).
Well, these are just things I have resolved to do. I would like to tag each and every one of you reading this to resolve whatever you can do to be the change.
It does not have to be all of this but just a sincere list of things you think you can do. Cuz, it probably will open my eyes to more things I can do.
And let’s only resolve those things we can truly follow.
For those who still want to shirk off your responsibility, RDB has a wonderful couplet for its opening lines:
“Ab Bhi Jiska Khoon Na Khaula, Voh Khoon Nahin Voh Paani Hai,
Jo Des Ke Kaam Na Aaye, Voh Bekaar Jawaani Hai”
(If your blood still does not boil, it’s probably just water,
Those who come of no use to the nation, are just a complete waste of youth)
Exactly my sentis dude….
Great Post…
So you are “RDBied”… 😉
Me too…:-)
Maybe we can call ourself “RDBians”…
(Keeping such phraseology would make people like me to stick to the rules and thereby to the elite group)
or maybe we should be calling ourself “Citizens”, for once in the real meaning of the term…
I do stop at signals and earn the wrath of the other drivers and yes it does work at times. However, to further better the system (we also need a strong enforcement of the law, violaters of which will be severely punished). \
I agree with what you said except for the “Buy Indian Brands” part. Instead, I would rather have us improve Indian product quality and service that makes people want to buy it.
i think all the signals should have a gate like we see in railway crossing and toll gates which should come down when the signal turns red…….so people will be forced to stay near the stop line…..this could be implemented for some time….once people get used to this slowly we can remove the gates………they will start stoping by instinct….
Regarding drink and drive…..the insurance companys are planing to reject the claim or reduce the amount of claim given as compensation to an injured or death person if alcohol is found in his system……..if it is implemented……it should also be advertised so that it acts as an advertisement for road safety as well as insurance…..this might make people think twice before driving…..
recently one of my friend bought a new car……he never wears seat belt…..the mannual said, the airbag of the car will work only if the seat belt is put….he is now wearing seat belt where ever he goes in his car……
the problem is that the cynics (i might include myself here) will never get convinced of the need for “system getting changed” as a philosophy. we should talk only about the implementation details and attach no ideological stance to why we do what.
I suspect that this might not have made sense. But to put in a few words, i think a system is something that works when it deals with mostly supposedly bad or not-good (w.r.t. the system) people (the apolitical lot) and not ppl actually believing in that system.
people:
more than the comments and reactions to my resolution, I wud like to see yours… do post something in ur own blog and leave a link here… I would really appreciate that!!
thanks guys!

otherwise, we are just doing the same old thing of commenting about what others should do instead of doing something yourself!!
cheers!

Great post… Finished the tag
@Smrithi:
Brilliant… Way to go…
hey buddy
i liked ur post.. did realy made me think bout humanity , patriotism etc etc etc.. actions wud soon folllow… but do write more of this 2 keep the spirit hi..
and how much do u get PAID for ENDORSING RDB in every post? TWO reviews + quoting n requotin the dialogues + treating them like gospel truths… gimme a break man!!!
Sudhish,
In all fairness, I am yet to watch the movie. I can relate to your euphoria – I too feel like beating up that bad politician/policeman after watching a bad Vijai movie (every one of them). But, as I tell my friends who complain about the bad politicians who ruin the country – where do these politicians come from? From us. So don’t complain – do something. And to all fairness to you – I ran away from the problems, I don’t live in India – my dream is to return and be in politics – do something to change.
As for stopping in traffic light while a truck comes barrelling at you at 100 kmh – thats plain stupid. Why don’t you do something else – complain to the cops and make sure there is somebody to check that nobody speeds and they all stop at the light when its red – its the cops jobs to do so…
Also – read your previous post about cruising at 100 kmh around midnight…I’m sure there were some laws broken there too! 😉
Like any good drug addict – first step is recognize that there is a problem…beating the patriotic drum doesn’t solve all the problems – acknowledging them will be the beginning…
Sorry for the long post – I will try to post something about the movie on my blog once I watch it.
-BK.
Hi Sudhish,
Nice blog. You seem to have been totally captivated by that movie! Your list is great, it’s funny that most of the items on your list are actually something that we should be doing normally, and how they have become some kind of a resolution now. Hey, I meant this in good sense, I am definitely not criticizing the list. Here is how I can be the change:
1. DO NOT BRIBE. There’ll be takers only as long as there will be givers. More than not “costing us anything” as you’ve put it, this actually saves us money 🙂 (at the expense of lot of energy of course).
2. GET RECEIPTS FOR EVERYTHING YOU BUY. Be it a carpenter or a jewellery store owner, they profit by not having to pay taxes if they don’t issue you a receipt. You don’t get a cut from it anyway.
3. KNOW THAT THERE ARE RULES AND LEARN WHAT THEY ARE, EVEN IF I CHOOSE TO IGNORE THEM (for accountability for my actions).
I remember the time when I was 16, when I was just getting ready to face the world, I had this unpleasant experience at the RTO when I was trying to get my moped license. People didn’t even know that the actual fees for getting a license at that time was only Rs.50. They were paying Rs.500 or so to get it. I am proud to say that I fought till the end without giving anything more than that 50 rupees, though it took several (=many, multiple) trips to the RTO and humiliating experiences to finally get my license. I am not sure if I inspired anyone beyond my immediate family, but I am at least at peace with myself. I did the same to all the policemen that have stopped me randomly – I always carry with me all the relevant documents that are supposed to be with me when I drive – license, insurance, rc book, etc.

🙂
thanks for that!
sagaro:
will check it out man… thanks for doing that!
BK:
watch the movie buddy cuz you are coming across as an idiot here… besides, this post aint about the movie as much as it is about your responsibility and things you can do to be the change…
going on 100kmph on a highway is illegal? i thought those neon boards on the highway told you to keep at 80.
and since u are not in india, i suggest u cork up about things you do not know… there is no traffic cop at the signal that late in the night to complain to..
and instead of telling others what to do and pointing fingers at whose job it is, why dont u put up a list yourself, smart ass?
cop or no cop, my job is to wait at the signal when the light goes red and i will. if everyone does their job, instead of telling others what to do, half the problems will be solved.
as the post says, be the change!
anush:
thanks man! i picked up at least two of ur resolutions… demand bills and reject bribery… definitely! though i will find it hard not to buy movie tickets in black!!
hi ,
Good blog…I visit marina almost every weekend .. it has been a ritual for the past 5-6 years now… and i always carry a “plastic cover”(i end up gettin so many of them/im lazy to make paper covers myself ;-)) and try to clean the place were i sit around if not the entire beach…so many people mock at me , even my close buddies…. they infact try to litter the place in front of me so that they make me toil hard !!duh!! but over the years iam proud that i have brought in a definite change in my friends…now each of them carry a bag ‘wherever’ they go and call is as ‘aishu’s bag’ and ensure that they arent dirtying the place.Even tho’ im annoyed abt the name, im happy that they have realised their responsibilties..
Sad that people find it hard to get inspired from common people and always want aamirkhan or some other “celebs” to guide them to right from wrong….
And I also pay regular visits to NGO’s … whenever im down and feel defeated a trip to such places really makes me forever indebted to GOD who has blessed me with so many wonderful things that these ppl at the ngo’s dont possess!!
I have been reading your blog ever since.. but this is the first time i have left a comment….
Hi Sudish..
Awesome post man…its high time that we learn our responsibilities and start behaving like a good citizen… and more than that save our country from the politicians…..kudos man…remember me,,am the same one who made a hell lot of comments in ur previous posts!!!
Plato’s said ” The penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors”
I am not sure if you have heard of this,- some ex-IIT students starting a party (political) .follow this link http://www.paritrana.org
hey suderman what’s ur take ?
think u can rally your bloggerfans to have a little less conversation n a little more action ….
cheers

Good Post Sudhish ! Kudos !
I did watch the movie 2-3 days back and I liked it a lot. It instilled a great feeling in me and I felt that each of us is committed to do something good and worthwhile for the nation !
I read reviews of RDB on couple of blogs. Few of the folks in the blogging circle have lashed out at the BGM of the movie what they call a poor Back Ground Music by AR Rahman, and have addressed Madhavan as a tamilian monkey etc etc.
I made a comment in one of the posts saying that we should refrain from comments related to where one hail from etc etc and should focus on the message the movie conveys…
One so called “Anonymous” makes a mockery of my comments and asks me whether I sing “Maa Tujhe Salaam” in my dreams??? 😦
I feel that all of us need an attitude change towards our country ! That will def be the harbinger of any worthwhile contributions we can make to the country…
Roobaroo………….
machan;
one thing that comes right away to my mind :
no bribing ! if you are caught, pay up the fine.its your mistake.
if it takes 100 trips to get something done better make those 100 trips.we are not launching rockets here that we need to say “let me give that 100rs and get it done fast”
K.Shyam
Everything is fine, except wearing the helmet, my opinion.
I second that sud
Since Sudhish’s blog is much visited:
Next month, we ‘d be going to Andhra Mahila Sabha to serve food and play with the kids there. It happens everytime on a sunday. One meal (lunch) is usually 1200. They accept old clothes too.
So, I am going to inform the date/time here. All are welcome.
Wrote sometime back about the signal – http://mattermahadevan.blogspot.com/2006/01/ultimate-test-standing-in-middle-of.html
dey sudhish
Loose ayitiya da nee? I was so bloody self absorbed in my previous comments that I failed to realize that you idiot think from your heart. Good that I deleted them. You saw a huge lorry coming at 80 or 90 …. ithu laam thevaiya … Summa comment adikiraen nu nanaikatha … you life is more important than you think it is, You jawani is more useful too, standing your ground is one thing, losing your life is another … hope you don’t do such things anymore … Just because of some chat crap said about RDB is making you do such things … Don’t you do something stupid like this anymore … and people who are appreciating this post just stop and realize that its not just a thought, this guy really does things seriously … your list looks good man … I am guilty, self-absorbed and I accept it. You don’t have to set more examples like this. Stop doing such feats like standing near a raging lorry … a rapid change is not possible da .. A slow change is .. start of by cleaning the house and locality … anyway will talk to you in chat .. could not find you online …
hi,
i haven’t posted a list as such, but have…err..retorted to your post on my blog.
ibanti.blogspot.com
10 in the night wud be perfect but wat abt 11??the signals are switched off by the time.no red,no green only amber.
anyway i’m out to set an example by stopping before the stop-line,ride only in the two-wheeler lane in mount road etc.
dude , i’vent slept in days now , after watchin RDB !!
i’ve become more irrascible than ever before .
my fly is prolly goin to take me to a shrink !!
but things will change . i’m doing my part by trying to “kholao” some young yet “thanda khoon” . its been tough , but it IS possible .
i truly believe the revolution has started , things WILL change .
ok , i got an app wit my shrink , so gtg . keep the good work goin dude ! and make a visit to me blog sometime .
Hi,
Just at a time when I was wondering what could be done, came across your post. Beautiful! Well, I had something very vaguely similar in my blog at
http://chennaigalwrites.blogspot.com/2006/02/war-and-death.html#comments
I wrote something on the lines of the above post in my campus newspaper, about what we could do…and I was stumped as there was very little I thought I could do as a student that would matter…But what you’ve said at least gives a start! 🙂 I could ‘be the change!’
scoffes:
you have been thinking out of your ass, Im glad you’re visiting the shrink!
sheks:
the poonamallee high road has traffic signals on, sometimes even till midnight.
antickpix:
what is your point? what does your post achieve? does it make your proud? does it inspire anyone??
navin:
i dont mind losing my life waiting at a traffic signal… i wudve died doing something I believed in. died trying to make a beginning instead of sitting on my ass and calling others stupid, doing nothing in the process..
incognito:
thanks
mattermahadevan:
will look up… thanks.
k shyam:
good point. no to bribes. i recently got a EB official transferred when he asked my dad money to in the pretext of buying cable… found out that tis a huge scam that was being going on… none of us need to pay for cables, its their responsibility to ensure u get power.
anusha:
no point arguing with anyone. either they have it or not. if they dont, too bad. but that shdnt stop you or me from doing what we believe in, shd it? i am my own person.
amal:
i heard about it man. but politics need action at the grassroots and cyberspace can be used only when it gets there. the action has to be out under the sun… besides, any movement needs inspiring leaders and a strategy to get where they want to go cuz good intentions alone do not make for a party.
this post is not about that big a change… this post is about a smaller change within ourselves. in fact this post is just about me resolving to do a few things and tagging people to make a list.. no compulsion.
its not because of a movie, it’s just to prove change does not require a politician, it just needs you, to begin with.
Well, for my list:
1)At the risk of sounding cliched, I should say: I’m coming back home as soon as I can to work after I finish studying!
2)I won’t bribe anyone!
3)I’ll foster-parent 2 girl children
More when I know what line of work I’m going to be in!
Why the FUCK does it take a movie like RDB or a bolg like this to awaken all these spineless worms to stand up and praise the concept of following the rules? I bet these faggot-ass commentors are over 20 years of age. What the fuck happened to your sense of induviduality people? Why in fuck’s name do you just sit on your fat asses and wait for Sudhish Kamath and Rakesh Omprakash Mehra to say something so that you can just agree with it? Ask questions. That frightens the wrong-doers enough.
thanks for your view…anonymous angry person… I will still be saying the the same thing no matter what … giving up ur life for something u just believe in without knowing the consequences is stupidity .. why don’t you try to intimidate me more, I just see stupidity in your comment, and please do learn more bad words, your vocabulary is not good enough to piss me off. what connections are u trying to make with adayar cancer institute and me? please explain “there r is no space for values” what does that mean?
and I don’t argue with spoilt teenagers like you .. you might be a very good recruit for a terrorist squad, thats the potential you have in you .. words what effect is it gonna have on me or you .. a verbal spat is what you are looking for? stop the adrenaline rush and think, if you want to go ahead and still take out your anger in a pop-up comment window with the little amount of foul language that you know, go ahead, I don’t want to mock your stupidity, something that you are born with cannot be erased in a day.
#”If your blood still does not boil, it’s probably just water,
Those who come of no use to the nation, are just a complete waste of youth”
That is crap, which was kinda what my post was about. And criticising some aspects of your post. You do allow for that I hope?
Inspire? No, probably not. But that wasn’t my point.
Why exactly are you going to buy Indian brands (you haven’t specified whether you are going to stick exclusively to Indian products)? Is there any particular reason behind it?
You want a list?
Two things. Things I already follow, but would be nice for other ppl to do so as well:
a. Smile at every grumpy looking person who walks past on the road and have no intention of returning it.
b. Stop using ‘gay’/’faggot’/any other homosexual epithet/euphemism as a deragatory term, such as faggot-ass etc.
You are right. it time that we roll up our sleeves and do things that will bring out change
True.
Hey sudhish,
a great post..made me think a lot…
would like to tag this post and start off a tag..maybe there will be a ripple effect and more people can be RDB’ied..what say??
Hey Sudhish,
You’ve forced people to think a lot, kudos on that.
Yes rules need to be followed at all times. But what i would like you to also consider is that even though you are an individual with a clear consience, you belong to somebody, a family, a group of friends, so the stunt you tried at the traffic signal is alarming, i have been a bike rider myself, and at traffic stops any sane person will tell you that always stick to the sides of the road, at any time.
Else you will end up as a statistic.
God forbid that happens, think of what will happen to the ones that love you. Please dont try that again. If you want to stop at traffic lights stop by all means but not in the middle of the road unless you are in a truck ok.
The say charity starts at home, so think about the family before you think of the society and the country at large.
Its not Being the Change, thats important, i think its making a difference in the lives of the people around you, that will make life worth living.
I haven’t seen RDB. Yet to watch it.
But here is an addition to your list which I practice in my daily life:
1. Yell at people who spit on roads. I always ask them is this road your basin? They feel embarrassed and you ensure they do to do the same for the rest of their journey along with you.
2. Snap at people throwing garbage on the streets. Same question: Is this your personal dustbin?
I tell you for that short time it works! You have to have the patience too:-)
Nice post…
This is exactly why I don’t want to write posts about national issues and patriotism and the like, anymore. Cuz people start assuming I have been RDB-ized or whatever. And the movie was good, though the second half had a weak base.
anyways, nice post there Superman! 😉 I share your views!
Jeeeez! Are people frustrated? why so much negativity for a simple blog? If u all have nothing good to say, then u rather not say anything. But why the verbal attack? Its not an argumnt but a direct attack. If this was not virtual, and if it was real, would u all dare to come up n say something like the comments that are posted? take it easy folks. Its just a blog!
thanks H!
h said it all…
thanks guys, go home and do what you can… no compulsion…
ill be mighty thrilled if people do put up lists though… cheers guys!
venkatesh bhat:
sometimes we go with the impulse, when u just are so charged up that u dont care for anything else in the world… you just want to do the right thing…
thats what happened that evening.
but I promise you that I will try to do it with more emotional intelligence the next time around… in fact that was the only day I did that… stop in the middle of the road that is… i still stick to sides! 🙂
angry with navin:
i dont want to encourage personal attacks in my blog…so had to delete your comment!
antickpix:
before you criticise, take a minute to think who are you? what competence or intelligence do you possess cuz it doesnt come out thru ur post!
its one thing to rubbish something and another to criticise… i suggest u can begin with learning the difference between the two.
and yes, do spare me your “intelligence”… find a bin!
right. no personal attacks.
agreeing with you partly but questioning some of the details = rubbishing?
ok, you’re the journo.
Sudhish, nice post. Agree with you on the point that individuals have to ‘be the change’ to bring in the change. We already have a good resolution list, some more :
1)Dont cause nuisance in public. Dont unnecessarily (or dont ever) sound horn while driving. Avoid using mobile phones in movies / concerts and put them to mute.
2)Dont abuse resources like petrol, water, electricity. Get the meaning of abuse right here, its perfectly fine to drive for 200kms with a purpose but not just for fun, that too frequently
3)Yes I emphasize strongly on this : invest money wisely. With some small saving as buffer, invest money and make more money than thinking of saving on taxes
4)Contribute to organizations that provide education, play a role in educating more people
5)Dont fault people who are cynical. All are not perfect. Need not answer them, but just be true to yourself and dont expect all the people to follow these things. Good people figure out good things and good way of doing things.
Suderman,
Kudos for a post/job well done. To all those “haters” in here, stop the Hate..Don’t Playa hate! Wow.. so much for a movie.. Never seen this happening in a long time..But am Glad we have some good movie makers and movie goers who believe in such things..
BTW, Why so much negativity in here? After all, we have one of our own standing up to tell what inspired him and how he is changing himself to be that responsibile citizen .. Is this how you reward that individual?? Come on.. You can do better.. Stop bitching about things and just do your part, as suderman says..
Of course, Suderman, I don’t have much to say in terms of what you folks should do in this becos I’m living shores away from where you live.. Just by doing what we Desis are good at, I’ll do my two cents by investing in things that are Indian..The next time I visit home, I’ll do my two cents to brave that barelling lorry at the traffic light..
This is to Navin:
You claim yourself to be a good pal/machi/friend/etc. etc. of Sudhish..Though your intension(s) is/are good when you said “save your life and then you can slowly change the country”, I have to question your very friendship with Suderman.. I beg to differ from what you have to say.. Here we have someone who is experiencing a life changing moment and why not be there to support him.. Why rant and rag him to death with what you call/feel as the Best Thing to do.. However, you must be knowing that he being a good friend of yours must possess the same, if not more, of that knowledge you possess and is capable of making his own decisions and can abide by things that he believes are the best.. Don’t you think your friend has the right to do things that he feels right?? If you are a good friend, which seems very questionable every time I glance through your postings, please refrain from showing such negativity..
Good luck on your endeavours, Sudish..As always, we will stay connected through your blog..Keep ’em coming..
Oops.. Not to beat my own drums, I also volunteer with several US NGO’s that do good amount of Rural Development work backhome..So, I guess, we Desis living away from home can join the local chapters of various such NGOs in our vicinity.
Foor starters, you folks can try the following Organizations:

Great post!
(And you started off telling me that it’s not about RDB)
From China:
dey,
I first thought of continuing a fight there in your blog comments…but what use do I have reinstating something to an anonymous…
anyway this is what I wanted to post …
Hey anonymous its easier to stand like an observer and comment like you. When it comes to a question of a person’s life, if he is not your friend you can read it as news online. It does not work that way for his friends and family. When did I say I did not support him, infact we had more arguements on this before/after he posted this in his blog … which you are not aware of … as for your question of knowledge, I think he is more knowledgable than me or you, but when it comes to an emotional decision it does not work when you have rage in you. He has a life changing moment, I just don’t want that to be a life threatening one. And one more thing a good friend is not one who always agrees with his buddies, if your friends are not bothered about you, probably you don’t have friends at all. He has every right to decide on his own and I have every right to express my view. Its easy to stand in a crowd and whisper a slogan or comment like you in a blog as anonymous and question about peoples friendship .. what are you trying to achieve here?
listen guys,
if u dont agree with me, make your point politely and i might even listen…
you try smart ass lines or swear words, im gonna kick your ass outta here.
only one person reserves the right to use swear words here…
Yours truly!
😀
and if u cannot contribute a list, please stay away… no one is forcing you to read this or do something about it…
if u cannot contribute to growth, at least do not hamper it…
cheers people!
Just ignore the negative criticism if it goes beyond limits. Gone are those days when negative criticism was healthy. These days folks used uncivilised language in the name of negative comments in blogs…we cant help it but ignore…
I was just wondering if couple of us start educating the masses about these things. I am sure there might be many out there like us who feel the same way about these things. I know its hard to do it but its worth a try…I see that couple of us spend considerable time with NGO’s. We could educate the kids there on these things. Next we could move to schools, help the EXNORAs in town about spreading awareness about clean environment, following rules on the road etc…
Its just a thought…
I totally agree with you.
I had an discussion with a friend the other day who was saying the same thing as your friend. This stuff looks good in the movies but would not work in real life. If others actually do something like that, great but it’s not for me.
Small drops make a ocean. So let’s each do our own part.
Well…i’ve been to ur blog b’fore…but this one really made me comment…i agree wid whateva ya sed in ur blog…and thts not coz of RDB for sure…i mean am a grown up for God’s sake and i dun need a movie to make me think abt these stuff….
I dun care when ppl say “Whts the use??Others wont change juz coz ya change or stop doin stuff?”…I juz have onethng to say..I juz dun care wht others think…and i strongly believe….when ya start somethng the final point will obv follow!!!
Your list seems gud enuff…but wht am thinkin is…to change the system…more than being IAS,IPS officers..we need to be human…Why is all this mad rush happenin’?Where does all this breakin’ rules come from??Competency….this whole world is competency-driven…I strongly believe a single smile of ours can make a whole lotta diff to ppl we dun even know!!
Simple thngs matter a lot…right from smiling at a complete stranger, to saying a thank you to an auto driver…and we mite never know….when we learn being courteous,we mite be even giving ppl enuff rsns to do their job wid passion and ofcourse enuff rsns to smile….
dont have sex outside marriage(pre or extra) is a good point, no ?
Good effort.

Wrote this much before the movie incidentally!
anonymous:
deleted that link cuz i do not think it deserves even one single hit from visitors of my blog…
obviously the author is a victim of hubris and is clueless about the art of reviewing… a review is not about spouting technical jargon… or using adjectives…
its explaining WHY it deserves those adjectives. it was his opinion awrite, but not worthy of being called review.
some prejudiced trash is what I wud call it if i were to review it and as you can see ive also explained why i call it trash.
🙂
Hi All
i m Shailesh, I too made a small effort to make things better in india, i just made a group of people, who thinks similarly.
Please view the details in the group:

btw, Waiting to see about your “Thalaivar” movie “AADHI” review. Heard, it is the biggest flop of recent times. 😦
“2. Stick to lanes, not overspeed, not break No Entry rules.”
except for the “no entry” thingy, that is stupid advice.
People should NOT necessarily stick to lanes, they should SWITCH lanes safely, with due indication.
And speeding. When you have road where you can safely(for evry1) do 60 on a bike, and the idiots from RTO are still fixated on 40, the change has to come elsewhere.
Oh great advice on stoppin at signals btw. Maybe you should add “dont get out as soon as u see green” to that. I was once fixated with being the first off traffic lights – until a (speedin) auto jumped a red and hit me before it flew dangerously into oncoming traffic. Scary. effin scary.
While I agree with what you say, there is also a flip side to this. Sometimes, negative traits are the same ones that become positive. In India, personal liberty intrudes into public space/ liberty in the form of jumping the queue, spitting, unruly driving, bribe taking etc., However, considering the disparity in income levels between the rich and the poor, which is among the highest in the world today, there is less of hard crime such as murders, big robberies, etc., Maybe this has something to do with tolerance/ acceptance. Probably, and conversely, in the West/ US, while personal liberty doesn’t intrude into public liberty, I think that hardcore crime, mugging , etc., are greater, even with social security. Maybe some European countries have a happy inbetween state of affairs.
A very heartfelt post. I really think all of us should start living by some principles. We need to start the revolution from ourselves. It always takes someone to take the initiative. Personally I always use the bin to throw wastes, planned to vote for now. I’m going to give this serious thought! I’m so glad i know someone who’s taking a few steps to the betterment of society! I hope this will prove to inspire others like it did to me! 🙂 All the very best to everyone who’s beginning something new today…
So is it okay if bollywood sponsors terrorists and underworld folks.
Me think boycott desi movies and blog more.
😉
What about corruption? We are aiding it at every point because its simpler to bribe someone!
If a traffic cop stops you, and wants to confiscate your bike, dont bribe him 100 bucks to get away!
Challenge the cop if he demands money. Have correct papers at all times. Insist on a receipt if he is
charging a fine for a paper you are unable to produce.
Don’t buy movie tickets in black.

Sudhish,
Nice post and absolutely valid views! Truly seems to be from the heart, with the sincere feeling that thy should do something to change things for thy country!
The point is to start somewhere, Kudos to all you folks here who are trying to do something about it, in all small ways!
Here’s to add to the existing list that people seem to have missed,
What about all the fake bills and fake house rent allowances people submit to escape paying exorbitant taxes.
That part always confuses me :-\ ! I know some really good ‘n’ nice people, such ‘honest’ people who do submit fake bills and claims at their company, to escape paying large taxes! Their explanation is simple – the govt. is corrupted, i’d rather not give it away to all those corrupt people there, rather i’d do what i can to the society on my own!
Sometimes, I wonder if this is really right ? and if they are justified ?
Sudhish – I’d like to hear your take on this…
– sboa ponnu !
PS: u still ain’t given me my sharpner back 😉
Im a lazy arse but still one who believes in being the change. People ready to dedicate time, energy and resources need to come together and start. Somewhere, somehow but not sometime, NOW..!!!
Im sorry to say I don’t believe I have the courage to lead the change right now, but I definitely can and will lend an immediate hand in implementing it.
Things I believe need working on, asap..
1. Plastic bags – Sell substitutes at all major stores, you’ll be surprised by the number of people who care.
2. Abolish beggars and child labour – May sound old and cliche but with some funding, adequate contacts and time it can be done.
3. Littering – STOP THIS NOW…!!
Thank you for your time, Im sure I didn’t waste it. People interested in taking any of these anywhere further. Contact me, I WANNA HELP. a.small.tsunami@gmail.com
Hi Guys
Check this link:

This news is ample proof to the fact that the Criminals of our nation and their bloody bloodline walk free from a criminal case…
I wonder how much were shelved out to the Judge, Cops, Eyewitnesses in the name of bribe or to what extent were the eye witnesses were threatened? AK 47 or M 80? 😦
What can we do about this guys? Every day, in every paper something of this sort happens 😦
Nice post.I sit sometimes wondering how easy it is,to do simple simple stuffs.Everyone cannot be a Bhagat Singh and sadly people map “being patriotic” to stuff like killing people and starting a political party.RDB was a nice movie, but i felt a little sad that it gave a negative image (killing the defence minister was not the way to go).Still, its a change.
Nice post
Great post. And an equally great warning 🙂
Surprised, no one talked about the new party started by IItians

I did write a few lines in my blog too.Comments are welcome.
screw d smartasses…
i agree…totally
In our world, the problem for the good sheep is to identify the bad sheep. To identify the bad sheep, all good sheep must keep their skin off even the tiniest speck of dirt. The good sheep just need to get better in sticking to the rules which they neglect to do from time to time. We must apply fairness to everything and not to just the things that are convenient to us.
What our country needs?? – Kill corruption
What out country doesnt need?? – To become Robotic and monotonous like the “Developed” countries. Dude… India is India man… there have to be J walkers and cows on the roads. Thats the rustic appeal of India that shouldnt be changed to fit into some Pseudo, Cliche’ society created by a country that has a culture less than the age of some artifacts in my house.
Do NOT Americanize.. I know this i taking the topic elsewhere… but I do not see the need for India to unnecessarily become something it isnt and shouldnt be. Suder… Ure fm chennai… How would you like Chennai if it became like.. hmm.. Newyork City? 1000 feet buildings everywhere.. no shops on the sidewalk.. no hawkers shouting in the background..?? Just the sound of blaring horns from cabbies? Naa man.. Home is fine the way it is.. except for the red tape and corruption in the system. Im not against advancement… economically, globally and financially. Im just saying that we do this in our own authentic Indian Ishtyle… and not follow some ridiculous Western pattern that most teens seem to worship these days. I’ve traveled a lot.. and worked with a diverse set of nationals. However, at the end of the day.. whenever a fella ‘desi’ employee spoke to a person from another nationality.. he wud bow down and bend over backwards to make the other person feel superior. This is just my opinion and Im sure lot of you would beg to differ. However, as far as Ive seen… mentality of most of the 1st Gen desis living in the west is to be indecisive and just be point blank afraid of an American Boss. Why?? I dont know… just their mentality I guess. I keep telling most of my friends… whats the worst that can happen?? You get fired? You leave hte country? Why are you scared to go back to your home country, where you can live in peace and not be away from people you care for… rather than live a life of subjugation in another country?
I dont know what I wanted to convey… maybe I should stick to reading.
Spoken from a true Hypocrite who still lives abroad.
Hi Sudhish!
Was blog-hopping n I found urs. I appreciate ur work in The Hindu.
n 4 this post: RDB triggered the dormant guilty feelings in me, like breakin rules, being unaware of current issues, etc. It certainly didnt increase the level of patriotism 🙂
Hey good stuff… Really gets you thinking. Nice to know that there are more people who feel the way I do about small changes and how they can make all the difference.
Mr Kamath
nice post….shall not proffer my views..but its time to walk the talk from just talking the talk
