Evano Oruvan Premiere

November 14, 2007 · by sudhishkamath

Just watched Madhavans Evano Oruvan at a fund raiser premiere. Blew my mind. After Anbe Sivam, finally a movie that is World class. Hits you right at the gut. Middle class angst has never looked more real before. Absolutely gripping. Riveting. Disturbingly good. The movie to recommend. Its a remake me the much acclaimed Dombivli Fast. Sending this from my phone from the theatre. More later.

Happah , was waiting a long time for this !! … bring em on !!

I meant your review ( and also any attacks towards the rubbish produced in the name of commercial cinema , when compared to Evano Oruvan !! ) ..

    Few questions ,

how was the general crowd response ? any celebrities attended this special screening , if so , what did they have to say about the movie !!

You are welcome. I don’t spare any excuse to show off my new phone! 😀

E90 is 36K – 40K. The N95 fits in my pocket, costs only 24K, it is much lighter and can be connected to a blue tooth keyboard that costs another 5K if I want to use my fone as my computer. But since I have a laptop, I prefer using my apple to type in the stories. As a journalist, the 5 mega pixel camera is a handy tool because it brings me printable quality images compared to the 3.2 megs the pencilbox phone provides. 🙂

    kuroon:
thanks! just noticed that. typed it in the dark of the cinema hall. 😀

    sa:
The crowd seemed pretty disturbed at the end. at least the people I spoke to really felt punched in the stomach. So I guess the film’s working big time.

Thats great to hear mate !!

Maddy always said that this is a movie that will hit you where it hurts ! I hope this would be the elusive break in his career by coming out of the Mani Ratnam shade !!

And hey , any celebs around you during the movie ?

its not only a remake of ‘Dombivili Fast’, but also of Joel Schumacher’s ‘Falling Down’ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106856/) – they did change the baseball bat to cricket bat tho 🙂

sa: yeah, but that would be namedropping.

    hari: worth the wait.

ram: ill assume you havent seen both these movies. there is a scene or two that reminds you of falling down but that’s intentionally put in there as a tribute from what I read of his interviews. Nishikant’s mentioned Falling down and Taxi Driver to be the films he wanted to emulate to communicate what he wanted… And i think he does it brilliantly. It is quite an original film actually.

    Hey Sudesh,

Enjoy your reviews. Very well written. I cannot spot the review of Guru though

Good that we have a realistic tamil movie for a change. most of the tamil movies are outrageous commercial crap with unbelievable song and dance sequences. hindi movies have moved way ahead.

my movie review blog is at sudermovies.blogspot.com.
I didn’t exactly review Guru because I saw it late.
But here are a few thoughts on the film: http://sudermovies.blogspot.com/2007/03/mani-re-mixed.html
You ll find it in the January archives, if that link doesn’t work.

Recently saw the original version, Dombivili fast. Atleast after watching this movie, people raise their voice against the extra money they take in Multiplex’s snack shops for cool drinks !!!. Guys should take signature from all who visit this movie and give it to the shop owners to show their protest…

I was eager to see this movie after reading your glowing reviews. But later saw a few clips from the movie in a Sun TV program. The scenes were quite absurd. Msdhavan protesting against granting a loan to some business man and another one, refusing to part with extra two rupees in a roadside shop. I did not get the point. In both scenes the ‘bad’ people had legitimate arguments in their favor. I hope this is not one of those self-righteous and self-pitying middle class glorifying movies.
